In 1810 Samuel Jones of Pikeland purchased a farm in Tredyffrin consisting of two tracts, one of 92 acres and the other of 42+ acres from the Maxwell family. After Samuel Jones died in 1827 his son, Jonathan, inherited the farm. Jonathan himself died intestate in 1845 leaving his widow Joanna with 7 children with ages ranging from 18 to 2 years old. Joanna and her children ran the farm until 1860 when they decided to sell up. The family, Joanna and 5 children, moved to Reading (the other 2 children having moved west).
