Serps Stewardship Day Report

Goat Hill

1/20/16

Participants: Kent Wagner, Sam Miller, Mike Waltz, and Henry Whitesel

Full report:

We meet at 10:00  am on a typically cold January day at the Red Pump Road Parking Lot and were out of the woods by around 2 pm. We accessed the state forest across Becky Murray’s farm and walked down to clearings 44 and 96. Our task was to cut stumps down to ground level so that Jim Herr can mow with his tractor mounted bush hog. Clearings and 96 and 44 was finished.

Thus far in our stump cutting initiative we have completed Clearings 42, 43, and 44 and 96. Area 89 is about half done. With a couple more workdays with 4 sawyers each day, we can likely complete stump cutting in all the clearings down the north ridge of goat hill to the point in the trail at clearing 45 and 46. That plus clearing 89 should be our goal to complete by the end of February. Of course this will require little snow cover and working in some cold weather.

Time on task: 16 hours. If travel time is included that total rises to 28 hours.

Thanks to our new sawyer, Sam Miller, who has extensive sawyer experience while working with Kent on the Horse Shoe Trail. We hope you join us again Sam. And of course thanks to our experienced sawyers, Kent, Mike W, and myself, Henry.
