Serps Stewardship Day Report

Goat Hill

4/21/16

Participants: Henry Whitesel, Tracy Raymond, Bill Whittaker, Kent Wagner, and Bill Kent

Full report: We met at 0900 and went down to the shed owned by The Nature Conservancy to spread gravel inside the shed to lift us out of the muck and mud that settles in there during rainstorms, making it very difficult to use and store equipment there. After about 10 days with no rain the ground floor was still damp and soft, but not muddy. The gravel truck came to the shed site via Elim King’s driveway and across the lower field. The truck barely scraped it’s bottom when traversing the ditch close to the drive. So In total there was no problem delivering the 3 loads of gravel. However the truck could not dump the gravel while completely in the shed because the overhead structure was not high enough.

Bill Kent, my immediate neighbor, brought his tractor, with a plow blade mounted on the the front, down to the shed and scattered the gravel from the entrance way around the interior floor of the shed. That single generous act saved us many hours of manual labor. Our job was thus reduced to smoothing out some of the clumps to make a uniform gravel thickness of 3 to 4 inches. We went home at 12 noon.

And we give a big THANK YOU TO BILL KENT for providing the tractor power to spread the gravel.

SUCCESS!!! We have gravel in the shed.

We have a little more work to do in the shed. That is to build shelves and hooks to store equipment. Since there are field mice around we should have mouse proof containers for the small items.

Time on task:15 hours. Total travel time to and from the site was an additional 4 hours.
