STRAIGHTENING THE TRACK

Progress of Improvement on the Pennsylvania Railroad between Lancaster and Philadelphia.

The Lancaster Examiner and Express of Tuesday says: On Sunday night the new track on the Pennsylvania Railroad at the eastern end of the Conestoga bridge was connected with the old, and on Monday all trains passed over it. About a mile and a quarter of new road has been made at that point, giving an almost straight track for that distance. Landis’s warehouse is less a quarter of a mile to the north by this improvement.

The alteration at Bird-in-Hand and between that point and Gordonville will not be completed for a month or two, but when the new track is ready for use it will greatly improve travel between the Conestoga and Kinzers.

The improvements at Green tree and Paoli are completed, and trains now run over the new tracks at those points.

Passengers who have been familiar with the road between this city and Philadelphia will at once recognize the wisdom of the important changes made and making. But two serious obstacles now remain to be overcome to make this the best piece of railroad in America – the Gap in Lancaster, and the Valley bridge in Chester county. As it is the ride is through the two richest counties in the State and is one of the pleasantest to be found in the country.
