Tredyffrin 1777 Map

1777 and 1778 were very significant years in the history of Tredyffrin. In September 1777 the British Army encamped in Tredyffrin for 3 days on its way to Philadelphia and looted many of the properties. Between December 1777 and June 1778 the American Army wintered at Valley Forge and a number of the houses in Tredyffrin were requisitioned as quarters for generals.

In 1782 a list of reparation claims was created detailing losses from the British Army's depredations. A number of Quakers and Mennonites refused to make claims. The Chester County Archives provide an Introduction to the Claims records.
