The tract was purchased by Rowland Richards in 1708 and stayed in the family over 100 years, until 1813. The Hessian General Knyphausen stayed in the house during the British encampment and the American General Woodford during the Valley Forge encampment. Samuel Richards was the owner in 1777/8 and Daniel Richards in 1798.

The Glass Tax return lists the following buildings: a Stone House of dimensions 30’ x 27’ on 2 floors. Windows: 5 windows with 15 panes; 4 windows with 12 panes; 1 window with 9 panes; and 2 windows with 4 panes. Other buildings: a Stone Kitchen 18’ x 15’; and a log barn 30’ x 20’.
