There are 3 sets of rent rolls of relevance: 1702/3 to 1740, 1741/2, and 1757 to 1775 (Reference: Pennsylvania State Archives, Microfilm Records, Rent Rolls, 1683-1776. {#17.269} LO 32.1-4 (4 rolls)). Only some of the properties in Charlestown paid quit rents. It is clear that there were difficulties in collecting the tax and in some cases there are no recorded payments. The tax was meant to be paid annually but this was rarely the case and it was paid in arrears. The record seems to be one rent that was paid 54 years in arrears!

From the records it is clear there were campaigns to collect Quit Rents in 1739 and 1757.

Ex-proprietors land (e.g. Manor of Bilton) did not incur the tax, neither did lands purchased in England in 1681 - 2 by lease and release before the patent system was set up (e. g. Pickering Mines).
