Devon Inn

image not foundDescription: This classic photograph of the luxurious Devon Inn, taken by Lucy Sampson in the spring of 1904, looks southeast from near the intersection of Waterloo and Berkley roads. The Devon Inn property was bounded on the west by Waterloo Road; on the north by Berkley Road; on the east by Dorset Road; and on the south by Chester Road. What is today Devon Blvd. was originally called “the Boulevard,” and its 300 yard length connected the Devon railroad station to the main entrance of the Inn. Shown, on its 20th anniversary, is the second Devon Inn (the first Inn burned down soon after completion in 1883) rebuilt the following year. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
