First Baptist Church, Waterloo and Berwyn Avenues, 1904

image not foundDescription: The First Baptist Church of Berwyn was practically brand new in 1904 when Lucy Sampson took this image looking north from Waterloo Avenue toward the railroad tracks. The church was located on the northeast corner of Waterloo and Berwyn Avenue, and its congregants were a splinter group from the Baptist Church in the Great Valley. Some 50 or 60 parishioners parted ways for reasons unknown, dissolved their membership from that church, and formed a new congregation in Berwyn and built this church building. The new congregation did not thrive, however, and finally dissolved. The former sanctuary is now the headquarters for the Isolite Corporation. Immediately north can be seen a private residence (razed in 2013 to provide additional parking for Isolite), and beyond, the well-known Oddfellows Lodge Hall. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
