Description: Looking north into Valley Forge State Park on what was then called Valley Forge Road [ today’s Route 252]. On the ridgeline one can see the peaked roof of the Valley Forge Observatory atop Mt. Joy. It is believed this image by Lucy Sampson was taken about 1904, and as she refers to this scene as the “new” Observatory, we presume that approximate construction date for the structure. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
