North side of Paoli Station

image not foundDescription: Looking east from Valley Road in Paoli after having crossed to the north side of the bridge, the covered stairway brings westbound passengers up from the platform to Fennerton Road. Across the PRR tracks along the right horizon can be seen the outline of the General Jackson Inn on the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike. In the foreground is a post with a kerosene lamp (there were no gas lines in Paoli in the very early 1900’s, and a lamplighter would illumine the scene each evening. While Fennerton Road has been closed, and several new buildings constructed, the basic configuration of the westbound Paoli station has little changed in 110 years. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
