View of Paoli Rail Yard

image not foundDescription: This image from 1905 by Lucy Sampson looks northwest from the bridge over Valley Road into the Paoli train yard of the Pennsylvania Railroad, with a yard building on the right and the interlocking tower on the left. A D-class steam locomotive hauls two coaches of the Paoli Local from the yard prior to electrification of the Main Line. Very prominent in the background are the yards of Dewees & Bracken, operators of a lumber, coal and feed business on West Central Avenue which backed up to the rail yard. The entire operation was destroyed in a catastrophic fire in the spring of 1932 (see images MF28 - 31) .- Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
