Franklin Burns at Hawk Mountain

image not foundDescription: My dad was an ornithologist by avocation. His interest in birding started when he was a pre-teen. His interest grew over the years and he was a member of several ornithological societies. I believe he was a member of the Wilson Ornithological Society. He may have met Frank Burns through the Wilson. I don’t know. Dad was a frequent visitor to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and knew the curator there, Maurice Broun and dad used to do a lot of birding with another amateur ornithologist, Albert Conway. Dad also banded birds and was issued a permit by the State of Pennsylvania. All of these associations are possible links to how dad knew Burns but he did say that he had been on birding excursions with him. I’ve attached a photo from the collection of negatives that dad had. It was marked as Frank L. Burns, Hawk Mtn., Sept. 1942. I really can’t tell you any more with any certainty.
