Pennsylvania Railroad station in Berwyn, Summer 1888

image not foundDescription: The PRR station, initially completed in 1881, as captured by Julius Sachse from the Cassatt Avenue bridge in the summer of 1888. The BERWYN sign positioned on the station’s overhang states, “Philadelphia-17 miles”; and “Pittsburgh-335 miles.” Standing before the station are six men, one woman in the doorway, and four children, three of them barefoot. To the east of the station is Fritz Lumber, still standing today as is the station itself. In 2014 the station looks much the same as its 19th century appearance. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
