General Wayne for his brave, prudent and soldierly conduct in the spirited and well-conducted attack on Stony Point that a gold medal emblematical of this action be struck and presented to Brig. Born in Chester Co, Pennsylvania January 1 1745 Died at Presqu isle, Pennsylvania December 15 1796 North Face South Face Virtue Liberty and Independence Erected by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lead me forward Wayne at Stony Point DESCRIPTION: Bronze statue with Missouri red granite base. DONOR & DATE - Henry K. Bush-Brown, Sculptor; authorized by the 1905 Legislature of Pennsylvania, unveiled guest orator, the Hon. Samuel W. Pennypacker, June 20, 1908. HISTORICAL DATA: The first monument to be erected by the state of Pennsylvania in Valley Forge National Historical Park and is a replica of the one commissioned for Stoney Point, New York. The site was chosen because of its location within the area of the Pennsylvania line and it is said to be in view of General Waynes Headquarters located nearby.
