Description: Memorial Marker-Unknown Soldiers In Memory of Unknown Soldiers Buried at Valley Forge 1777 - 1778 Erected by Valley Forge Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 1911 DESCRIPTION - Granite with decorated bronze plaque, 7 4 x 6 3. DONOR & DATE - The Valley Forge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 1912. HISTORICAL DATA - Although it is estimated that between 1,500 and 3,000 troops and auxilaries died during the Valley Forge encampment, it is not known how many were buried here, since many soldiers died in hospitals far from camp. It is certain, however that a number of burials took place at or near camp, and this monument marks one of the traditional sites.
