DONOR & DATE - The Commonwealth of Massachusetts June 19, 1911. HISTORICAL DATA - Massachusetts was the third state to erect a monument, after Maine and Pennsylvania, to its men who served here at Valley Forge. Massachusetts contributed more men to the Revolution than any other colony. They came from not only the present state of Massachusetts but also from the northern frontier, Maine, and the western frontier, Vermont. Eleven regiments from Massachusetts were at Valley Forge.
