image not foundDescription: MAINE To commemorate the officers and men from that part of New England now known as the State of Maine who served in Massachusetts Regiments with Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-8 shaping the hardships there endured this memorial is erected by the State of Maine under the auspices of the Maine Society of the Sons of The American Revolution --1907-- DESCRIPTION - Brandywine granite with bronze plaque 5’ 11’ x 5’ x 3’ 2’. DONOR & DATE - The state of Maine under the auspices of the Maine Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, 1907. HISTORICAL DATA - The state of Maine was the first state, of those who had troops at Valley Forge, to erect a monument, 1907. Maine was, at the time of the Revolution, a frontier district of Massachusetts.
