image not foundDescription: State Marker--Delaware The State of Delaware erects this marker in memory of her gallant sons who endured the hardships and privations of the memorable winter of 1777-1778 on the hills of Valley Forge DESCRIPTION: Cut Brandywine granite, 6’ x 5’ x 3’. DONOR & DATE: The State of Delaware, unveiled in ceremony October 31, 1914. HISTORICAL DATA: The Delaware Regiment - there was only one - was considered by many to be the crack regiment of the Continental Army but it did not winter at Valley. Forge. Captain Allen McLane’s Regiment, however, served throughout the winter, providing Washington with details of British movements.
