DONOR & DATE: The Valley Forge Park Commission under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 1908. HISTORICAL DATA: The 1st and 2nd Brigades of the Pennsylvania line were both encamped at this location. Anthony Wayne commanded these two brigades which constituted a Division, an unusual responsibility for a Brigadier General, but Pennsylvania’s senior officer, Arthur D. Clair had been removed from this command at this time was awaiting court martial throughout the winter of 1777-1778. There is a question as to whether or not Lieutenant Colonel William Butler was in command of the 2nd Brigade.
