Description: Memorial Marker--Betsy Ross Betsy Ross To Honor the Maker of the First American Flag Erected 1923 Elizabeth Griscom ROSS Ashbourne Claypole 1752 1836 TRIBUTE OF PATRIOTIC ORDER SONS OF AMERICA DESCRIPTION: Dressed light gray granite consisting of an upright shaft with an eyelid-shaped curve to its upper surface; mounted on a similar base. Overall size 35“ x 17“ x 48“ high. DONOR & DATE: Patriotic Order Sons of America 1923. Originally erected at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia by Patriotic Order Sons of America in 1923. Moved on December 17, 1975 to its present location. HISTORICAL DATA: Originally erected by the Patriotic Order Sons of America at the gravesite of Betsy Ross in the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia in 1923. In 1975 the grave of Betsy Ross and her husband were moved to the Ross House. The Patriotic Order Sons of America monument was then moved to its Headquarters and set near the flag staff.
