Workizer's House

image not foundDescription: Colonel Christian Workizer, the owner of the Howellville Inn, briefly lived in this house during the Revolution when General Grey of the British Army occupied the Howellville Inn for a few days during the British occupation in 1777. The house was located in what is now the PECO complex off of Howellville Road near the Trenton Cutoff bridge. When the electric towers were constructed in the Valley in the 1920s, the family of Joseph Williams, one of the founders of Trinity Presbyterian Church, lived there. They were the last owner. Philadelphia Electric bought the property in the 1950s, and they demolished the house. Today’s driveway from Howellville Road into the PECO complex lies atop the gravel road that led back to the house and barn. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
