Wynburne Inn

image not foundDescription: This Lucy Sampson image, which features the front of Berwyn’s Wynburne Inn, is found on a postcard sent August 16, 1905. It is believed that this photograph was actually taken the previous summer of 1904. The image, which prominently displays the sign with the Inn’s name, looks southeast from the Philadelphia and Lancaster ‘Pike. One can see a couple of heads of guests sitting on the porch, as well as the prominent observation deck on the top of the structure. The Wynburne Inn was managed at this time by a Mr. & Mrs. Downing, and weekly rates ranged from $9.00-$15.00. By 1933 the wooden structure had been renamed the Lincoln Inn, and burned to the ground soon after. - Herb Fry and Roger Thorne
