An Ornate Suburban Village
|
Another ornate little village, to be called Devon, has been laid out near Eagle Station, on the Pennsylvania Railroad, about sixteen miles distance from the city. Four hundred and eighty acres has been bought by Messrs. Coffin & Altemus who intend to divide it into two acre building lots and so improve it to make desirable for suburban residences. An imposing depot will be erected by the railroad company, to whom the purchasers gave three acres of land and $3,000 in cash. The ground around the building will be attractively garnished with flowers, fountains, and statuary. It is within half-an-hour’s ride of Fifteenth and Filbert Streets and adjacent to Wayne, Villanova, and the Drexel and Childs property. A large hotel and waterworks are to be constructed.
