By an advertisement which appeared in the American Republican of the 19th and the Village Record of the 20th instant, signed by John Beaver, it appears that I am charged by the said John Beaver with having “insinuated and endeavored to make it believed, that a certain Corner Stone has been planted by him in a wrongful manner, with a view to encroach upon my land” What Mr. Beaver’s motive can be for making such a statement, I know not; for I have never “insinuated”, but merely stated the facts, which are these:- A corner stone situated in a public road between my land and John Beaver’s was taken out of the ground by wagons, as I suppose, some time in May 1823, and lay on the ground, near the fence, until some time in August following, when it was again planted in the road by some person without my knowledge, which act I considered as unneighborly, and so expressed myself.
