John David Howell aka John Howell

Date: 24 August 2012

In Tredyffrin tax returns 1715 – 1726.  Will, 1729 at Philadelphia.  Wife Elizabeth. No mention of any children in will.  Besides his wife his closest relatives mentioned are sisters Gwenllian and Jane.  One of the overseers of the will is John David.  Gives land to John Thomas on death of wife.

Gwenllian is an uncommon name.  Thomas David’s wife is called Gwenllian.

Was he the brother of Llewellyn David?  If so why the name?

In 1700 Thomas and John David purchase land in Tredyffrin (P-113).
In 11/5/1707 sell part of the land to Thomas Evans (no deed, date quoted in F-8).  He is in Tredyffrin tax record 1718 and 1719.  In 1720-1 he sells it to David Evans (F-8).  Thomas Evans is then living at Green Hill.

The other part of the land John with his wife Elizabeth and Thomas & his wife Gwenllian sell in 1718/9 (F-16).

John Howell is the only John David I have in my records with a wife called Elizabeth.
Elizabeth marries George Hughes c. 1731 (see deed K-5).  Hugh(es) is a witness to John Howell’s will.  His will states that William Hugh is a cousin.
