Obituary: Daniel F. Alleva
May 23, 1945 – October 2, 2021

Col. Daniel F. “Danny” Alleva passed away on
October 2, 2021, after a long health battle.

He was 76 years old. Born in Cedar Hollow (now Malvern), PA, he graduated from Great Valley High School and from Reading Area Community College’s Auctioneer Program, earning a PA License from the State Board of Auctioneer Examiners in Harrisburg and the official title of “Colonel” in 1997. Danny and his wife Myra were happily married for 54 years, as both life and business partners.

Danny’s business skills began in his father’s feed store, Main Line Coal & Feed Co., where he drove the Alleva Fuel Oil truck. He then started U-CART Concrete in Paoli, incorporating a unique grinding process, one of many creative ways Danny looked to expand the family businesses over the years, and successfully so. After selling the concrete company, he returned to the feed business (with Myra & family) as owner of Frazer’s Feed Store in rural Downingtown in the 1970’s. He worked in Inventory Control at Centocor and in Traffic Management at Norcross Cards.

Desiring to work closer to home, Danny took the role of Warehouse Manager at Buelher Ltd and then at Tri-State Rivet Corp. while he pursued his new career in auctioneering. Once licensed, Danny found his happy place as owner and CEO of Alleva Auctioneering, where his friendly, approachable ‘auction patter’ encouraged all in attendance to join the fun, bidding on pottery, antique furniture, art, toys, glassware, memorabilia, and other treasures. Danny’s auctions were a well-loved gathering place and a thriving business for over 20 years. He was known for onsite, estate, and charity auctions, proudly serving as guest auctioneer for the Special Olympics of PA and Charlestown Nature Center.

Danny was a 20-yr Life Member of the Paoli Fire Company, serving as Firefighter, Company Photographer, and Relief Board member. He was a Life Member of the NRA and an active member of the Eastern Lancaster County Gun Club. He loved target shooting and collecting antique gun powder cans.

Danny was a beloved husband, wonderful dad, great friend, good neighbor, savvy businessman, master craftsman, and an active community member of Cedar Hollow, Malvern, Paoli, and West Grove, PA. He performed in the band “The Flares” in the 1960’s with four of his school buddies and, by all accounts, they were GOOD!

He enjoyed Hit & Miss Engine shows, collecting, restoring, and customizing antique toys and trucks, riding his Kubota tractor, custom woodworking, making cabinets for his toy collections, exploring agriculture, capturing photos of local wildlife, tending his gardens, and riding his beloved horse Festus. Danny loved taking road trips to favorite eateries, nurseries, and flea markets “just down the road” with Myra and his friends throughout his life.

Danny is predeceased by his wife Myra (Defelice) Alleva, his son Anthony Alleva, his father John C. Alleva, and his mother Julia Paczok Alleva. He is survived by his son Edward F. Alleva (Jeanne), his sister Rosemarie Alleva, his granddaughter Aubrey Stokes Newton (Jimmy), his granddaughter Eden Shea Alleva, and his great grandsons Trace and Carter Newton. Funeral arrangements will be managed by Alleva Funeral Home in Paoli, PA. Services will be private. A Celebration of Life will take place in Spring 2022 (for both Danny & Myra). In lieu of flowers, Danny asks that donations in his memory go to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, which holds a special place in his and Myra’s heart. (https://hawkmountain.org)
