Obituary of Mary McHenry CoxMrs. Mary McHenry Cox, widow of J. Bellangee Cox, died Saturday Evening November 3, 1906, at her summer home, "Castanea", Wayne, Pa., aged 79 years, after an illness of over a year. Mrs. Cox was for many years identified with religous, philanthropic, and social life in Philadelphia, being known as "The Orphans' Friend," to whose zeal Philadelphia owed the Church Home, founded 1856, the Lincoln Institute, founded 1866, and the educational home for Boys, founded 1871. Mrs. Cox spent a large part of her time in the active management of the institutions she founded. Her body was brought to the Lincoln Institution on Monday evening and the funeral was on Tuesday 12 M., the Rt. Rev. O. W. Whittaker, D.D., L.D.D., assisted by the Rev. F. W. Tomkins officiating. The children of the Lincoln Institution and the Board of Managers attended the funeral. |
