Samuel Flower tract

Summary: In 1/18/1752 a Warrant was raised for John Potts in the right of Samuel Flowers. This resulted in Survey C161-257 of 288 acres but there does not seem to have been a patent issued at this time. In 1762 the tract was subdivided between John Potts and Samuel Flowers and a survey was undertaken by Benjamin Lightfoot which is recorded as survey C161-257. No patent seems to have resulted from the survey.

The northern 24 acres of this tract had already been patented by Edward Catherel et al in 1752 (see John Martin tract for further history of this property).

In 1765 John Jacobs received a patent for 112 acres of this property. In 1796 Abraham Whisler received a patent for 147 acres which included part of the propety. The Whisler property was later declared unseated land ((taxes not paid). Additionally a small parcel of 6 acres was patented by Richards Jacob and Thomas Kennedy in 1800.

In 1814 the executors of Isaac Potts received a patent for the original Flowers & Potts tract and a court case occured between John Jacobs and heirs of Potts. This resulted in the heirs of John Jacobs retaining the land but paying monies to the heirs of Potts (deed H4-154).

Edward Catherel, John Reynel, John Morris, John Armit, John Smith, Joshua Emlen, and Israel Pemberton patent, 1755.
Survey A66-171 (Warrant 4/8/1755; return 12/4/1755).

Usually when there are a large number of names on a deed or patent it is because the tract is to be used for a school or church. There is no evidence that this is the case for this patent.

See John Martin for deed history

Received the 11/23/1761 of John Potts £7 10s in full for surveying the within tract of land with my trouble of going to Philadelphia and getting the draft out of my office and my expenses.
