The property at the junction of what are now routes 252 and 30 in Paoli was first sold as a separate tract in 1817 when William Guthrie purchased 3+ acres of land. A store may have existed earlier than this date as William Guthrie is listed as a store keeper in the 1814 (and 1821) Septennial census for Tredyffrin.

Holland Malin purchased the property in 1840 and sold it in 1867 to Henry Schofield. The store was the location of the Paoli Post Office between 1893 and 1897.

Mary’s brother, Samuel Jones, married Sarah Malin, daughter of Holland and Mary Ann Malin in the period 1865 - 7 and they subsequently moved to Wisconsin.
