Geology

Pima: 1. Scattered, small and relatively weak, partially oxidised, copper and local Molybdenite mineralization in quartz fissure zones in Mesozoic volcanics and Laramide intrusions.

2. Gold placer deposits in alluvial cone in Madera Canyon6.

Santa Cruz: Spotty and weak, partially oxidized, base metal sulfides with associated minor gold and silver values, with or without quartz, along shear zones in Laramide intrusives or metamorphized volcanics.5

Types of operation and production

Pima: Scattered, small, and generally shallow prospects and mines worked intermittently since the 1880s. Total estimated and reported production not more than a few hundred tons of sorted high grade copper ore. Considerable placer gold recovered in the late 1880s6.

Santa Cruz: Scattered, small, and generally shallow operations. Mostly prospects with no recorded production5.
